Two years ago today my brothers and I were in the middle of the stupidest and most epic trip we’d ever taken. We put 6,000 miles on a rental car and drove to California, camping at national parks along the way.
We’re back on the MyFitnessPal kick in full force. Which means fresh, low-calorie options, and an abundance of Lenny and Larry’s Complete Cookies.
Finally going down the Enneagram rabbit hole just a smidge over here. With my introverted, obsessively-researching self I could easily be lost in the black hole and now I want to learn everything. If I truly am a 5 like I suspect….well then thaaat’s about right.
Everything from compression bag recommendations to the all-essential trip snacks. Here’s our two-week packing list for going abroad with relatively minimal luggage. Tell us what your travel essentials are! You know, if you’re into this sort of thing.
Happy Memorial Day weekend to you all. Can we talk about the cartons of strawberries that are cheap and delicious and everywhere? We’re all about local and in-season foods. Also, I’m having a moment with Bisquick. I’m not really sure how I made it this far in life without truly appreciating the American innovation.
“Really that’s all a vacation is, just us eating in a place we’ve never been.” -Jim Gaffigan
Now please excuse me while I go confess my sins to MyFitnessPal and spend like four hours on the treadmill.
I sat there in a gorgeous white silk dress from BHLDN and - between prayers that I didn't spill wild rice pilaf in my lap - I happened to look down the middle of our two family-style tables to see dozens of faces radiating with celebration. It was a chaotic mix of our worlds…
I love how seasons always catch me off guard. I love how no matter how many autumns you’ve had, that first crunchy leaf still takes you by surprise. And how that first warm breeze makes you…
This is the “Quick Orange-Walnut Sweet Roll” recipe from the Magnolia Table cookbook. I edited it down for just two people quite frankly because I got tired of zesting oranges. But, hello, these are the best darned orange rolls I’ve ever had.
The lovely and talented Abigail Whisler knocked it out of the park. She captured the moody elegance and raw emotion so eloquently. It feels like I can reach out and touch this day that slipped away ever too quickly. And cards on the table folks - I can’t get over how ridiculously dapper my groom looks in that top photo.
I can’t tell you the level of giddiness and pride that swelled up when my grandmother asked for the recipe. By my reaction, you’d think the spirit of Julia Child herself had just asked me for a recipe.
Married three days.
Is this real life?
The exact words written next to this recipe in my notebook are, "ABSAFREAKING PHENOMENAL," and two large hearts. These are soft cookies with a ginger kick, infused with molasses and rolled in sugar. I had eight the first night I made them during Snowpocalype 2017. #diabeetus.
We first saw these in a train station in Florence, Italy, and giddily passed the phone back and forth scrolling through the little preview at least twelve times.
Melody Foster….. Melody Foster….
Still sounds odd.
But his name is soon becoming mine.
Chattanooga is a dope background for love.
In a book we’re reading, the author proposes that we change a little bit each day and at the end of the day we as a couple need to deliberately set aside time to get to know each other again.
Planning is basically a love language of ours. While I am busy making sure our shoes are sprayed with a waterproofing seal for Venice, he is confirming train departure times and how long it will take to eat lunch in Florence. I love how we work together like this to pull off something that means so much to us.
